SUMMARY:Hiking in the Steno Athamanias Gorge
DESCRIPTION:On the weekend of August 2 and 3, the EOS Karditsas will camp by the river in order to hike through the Steno Athamanias Gorge.\nEquipment: swimsuit or appropriate clothing, helmet (if someone does not have one, they should contact the club to borrow), suitable footwear for walking in the riverbed, as well as camping gear. \nDeparture: 15:00 on Saturday from the new City Hall of Karditsa.\nFor more information and participation (Those who do not have their own means of transportation should call in time): 6972695901\nThe area we will visit is located south of the village Athamania (or Moutsiara), which is crossed by the Moutsaritis River or Moutsaritiko Stream. In the gorge, there are 3 side waterfalls and a fourth one on the main stream at the end of the route. The distance is approximately 11 km of moderate difficulty. The historic Holy Monastery of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary is located about 5 km from Gardiki and about 2 km from the Alexiou Bridge, and according to testimonies, it was built in a lush green area in 1830 by the Chytas brothers, local klephts and armatoloi.   \nTowards the end, the gorge becomes narrower with unique geological formations and sedimentary rocks, and it is a gorge of unparalleled natural beauty. On the way back from the monastery, those who wish may swim in the Acheloos River below the Alexiou Bridge. \n
