On the eastern rocks of Meteora above Kalambaka, lies the Monastery of Agia Triada. It is one of the six active monasteries of Meteora, which have been included in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites since 1988. To the east and very close to it is the Monastery of Agios Stefanos. <\/p>\n

Agia Triada is one of the oldest monasteries of Meteora and was the most inaccessible. Until 1925, access to the Monastery was by net or ladder. That year, 140 steps were carved into the rock, which, in combination with a narrow path at the base of the rock, lead safely up. In the 1970s, a cable car line was added, mainly to transport heavy objects and materials for the needs and maintenance of the Monastery. <\/p>\n

According to tradition, the monastery was built by the monk Domitios in 1438, but there are written references to the monastery as early as 1362. The monastery’s catholicon, according to the founding inscription, was built in 1475-76. <\/p>\n\r\n
