Taking the road from Kalampaka toward the villages of Aspropotamos, travelers cross the northern Pindos range within the Meteora\u2013Pyli Geopark. After passing through Kastania and Amaranto, the route continues through Kranea and the remarkable Monastery of the Holy Cross in Doliana. Much of the journey traverses the Pindos Flysch formation, characterized by gentler, forest-covered terrain, in contrast to the steep, bare limestone peaks of the Pindos Mountains. After Katafyto and Anthousa, the road enters the limestone zone of the Pindos and ascends toward the Baros Pass. At an elevation of 1,900 meters, Baros is the highest paved mountain pass in Greece, connecting Thessaly with Epirus. Due to its high altitude and minimal vegetation, the Baros Pass offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. The pass is closed during the winter months due to snowfall. Beyond the Baros Saddle, the route leaves the Meteora\u2013Pyli Geopark and descends toward the picturesque villages of Kalarrytes and Syrrako in the Tzoumerka Mountains.<\/p>\n\r\n
