The Baros Pass or Neck is one of the three main passes of Pindos mountain range and is located on the western edge of Meteora-Pyli Geopark (Aspropotamos area). At 1,905 meters above sea level, it is the highest road pass in the country. The road connects Anthousa and Chaliki (Aspropotamos, Thessaly) with Kalarrites and Matsoukouki (Epirus). It was paved in 2014, while during the winter months it remains closed to traffic due to snowfall and frost. The landscape is wild, rocky and without significant vegetation due to the high altitude. The peaks of Peristeri\/Lakmos and Kakarditsa towards the Thessaly side are also visible from the pass. Ascending towards Perasma, the visitor can see the impressive stratigraphy of the Pindus zone, with its colorful formations of radiolarites, limestones and clay shales ranging in age from Jurassic to Cretaceous. On the slopes of Baros, one can also see the glacial moraines, sediments deposited during the movement of glaciers in the Pleistocene (approximately 100-500 thousand years ago). <\/p>\n\r\n
