The Geopark

he Meteora – Pyli Geopark is a living meeting point of natural heritage, history, and culture, proudly part of the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network.

In this section, visitors can explore different aspects that highlight its richness and significance: a general presentation of the Geopark and its unique features, the geological evolution and history that shaped its landscape, the role of the Management Body in safeguarding and promoting it, the international and national geopark networks in which it actively participates, as well as the collaborations with partners that support its actions.

Geopark of Meteora – Pyli

The Meteora–Pyli Geopark extends across a region of exceptional natural and cultural value in Western Thessaly. It combines the impressive rock formations of Meteora—a UNESCO World Heritage Site—with the mountainous landscapes of Pindos, rivers, and forests, offering a living canvas of geology, history, and tradition.

Management System

The Meteora – Pyli Geopark is managed by a permanent Management System that was set up for the joint monitoring and evaluation of its development course with the object of its organisation and operation.

The Meteora – Pyli Geopark is a member of four important networks: the World Network of Geoparks, UNESCO Geoparks, the European Geoparks Network and the Greek Geoparks Forum.
