Between the mountain ranges of Triggia and Koziakas, a plateau is created where the Pertouliotika Meadows extend, at an altitude of approximately 1,200 meters. It is an alpine landscape of exceptional aesthetics with abundant aquatic life and a variety of flora. The meadows are a magnet for all visitors to the municipality but at the same time they contribute to the local economy, which is largely based on extensive livestock farming. The river that crosses the Pertouliotika Meadows is the Xerias or Pertouliotikos which originates from Mount Koziakas creating characteristic meanders. The vegetation of the meadows is maintained by grazing and the frosts that do not allow the r trees to grow and the forest to expand within them. The ski center of the area is located at the location “Livadia Pertouliou”. It has a relatively small ski slope, aimed mainly at less experienced skiers, but is equipped with a ski lift and cable car. Around Livadia is the Pertouli University Forest, which is managed by the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Its area is 3,296 hectares, of which 2,361 are forests. The purpose of the university forest is the practical training of students of the School of Forestry and Natural Environment, research and exemplary exploitation of the forest.
