On the heights of Koperna, where the old village of Avra was located north of the current one, is the Monastery of Saint George of Avra. It is the Orthodox chapel of Saint George, which in recent years has been restored with the efforts of believers and its staffing by Archimandrite Dorotheos Tzevelekas.
It is noted that Saint Cosmas of Aitolos also passed through Avra and taught in the area that is now the monastery. Recently, a brick-built building was erected next to the church, which is intended for the cells of the monks who will staff the Monastery in the future.
The Monastery of Saint George in Avra celebrates twice a year: once on the feast of Saint George and once on the feast of Saint Cosmas of Aitolos (August 24).
