The Monastery of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary of Stagiades is located just outside the village of Chasia, approximately 30 km from Kalampaka, this monastery dates back to 1004 AD, making it not only the oldest monastery in the Kalampaka region, but also one of the oldest in all of Greece.

Originally a men’s monastery, it was converted into a women’s monastery in 1968. The monastic complex includes a large courtyard surrounded by monastic cells, functional spaces, and the main church (katholikon) situated at its center.

The katholikon is dedicated to the Dormition of the Virgin Mary and was constructed in multiple phases, with the main nave dating to the earliest period. Architecturally, it follows the cross-in-square plan, with four columns supporting the dome. The interior is entirely frescoed with high-quality wall paintings dating from the early 17th century.

The narthex is adorned with frescoes painted in the mid-18th century by Michael, son of Michael, a painter from Chionades. Of particular interest is the carved wooden iconostasis, which stylistically dates to the early 18th century, along with the icons, which also belong to the 18th century.
