On the road to Gardiki, and 3 kilometers from the village of Agios Nikolaos (Kamnai), is the pilgrimage site of Saint Nicholas Asfakas. In an impressive location, the chapel is built at the base of a steep cliff. On the rock we can observe the impressive folds of the thin layers of Cretaceous limestone of the Pindos zone. The site was an old stop for caravans that were ascending or descending from the mountainous villages of the area. The chapel was built on the site where the icon of Agios Nikolaos was found painted in a recess of the rock. The name came from the asfaka, a shrubby plant with characteristic bright yellow flowers, which thrives in the Aspropotamos area.
