Touring the Aspropotamos Region
Starting from Pertouli, we follow the main road. After passing through the villages of Desi and Agios Nikolaos, we arrive in the Aspropotamos area, named after the Aspropotamos River, also known as the Achelous. Before reaching the Alexiou Bridge, the road splits. We take the uphill road toward the villages of Agia Paraskevi (Tzourtzia), Milia, and Polithea. From there, we leave the main road to Kastania and Kalampaka, and continue toward Katafyto, Anthousa, and Chaliki. The route follows the upper course of the Aspropotamos River, known for its numerous stone bridges, historic chapels, and monasteries. From Anthousa, we can ascend to the impressive Baros Pass, while Chaliki is the starting point for hiking trails leading to the Verliga plateau and alpine dragon lakes, as well as the Rona springs—the sources of the Aspropotamos River. After Chaliki, a scenic and picturesque route leads through the Mantra Hotza pass, continuing toward Anilio and Metsovo.
