RESOLUTION OF THE EVENT OF THE MOUNTAINEERING AND TOURING CLUB OF PYLI “Their Wind Turbines on Our Mountains”

Pyli, Trikala – May 16, 2026

Today, in the heart of Pyli, at the gateway to the Pindos mountain range, citizens, organizations, and the people who live and breathe in its shadow unite our voices and stand firmly against the attempted alteration of our homeland. Our mountains are not mere geographical coordinates or fields for industrial exploitation. They are our history, our identity, and the last remaining refuge of wildlife.

As people who walk these trails and know every inch of these mountain ridges, we declare that “development” cannot come through bulldozers flattening mountaintops and iron walls imprisoning the horizon.

The participants of the public event “THEIR WIND TURBINES ON OUR MOUNTAINS,” organized by the Mountaineering and Touring Club of Pyli (O.P.O.P.), jointly sign this resolution and demand the following from the State and institutional authorities:

MEANINGFUL PUBLIC CONSULTATION & SPATIAL PLANNING
The immediate completion of the National Spatial Planning Framework for Renewable Energy Sources (RES) is imperative. The State must stop the chaotic licensing process and initiate a sincere—not merely symbolic—public and substantial consultation with local communities, far from predetermined decisions and fait accompli situations.

FREEZE ON LICENSING PROCEDURES
We demand the immediate suspension of all licensing procedures concerning pending applications by the Ministry of Environment and Energy. It is legally and ethically imperative to freeze every new installation until the final adoption and implementation of the New Special Spatial Planning Framework for RES. Any licensing granted today, based on an outdated framework currently under revision, lacks proper planning and aims to create irreversible facts at the expense of the natural environment and local communities.

PROTECTION OF HIGH MOUNTAIN PEAKS (ALTITUDE LIMIT)
We call for the establishment of a strict altitude limit at 800 meters. The Pindos mountains must breathe and remain free from industrial installations. This altitude represents the boundary of our natural balance.

NO EXPLOITATION OF DAMAGED AREAS
No approval for wind farms—especially in burned, reforested, or environmentally sensitive areas—should be granted without the explicit and binding consent of local Communities, Municipalities, and the Region. The land belongs to those who care for it and live within it.

CLEAR POSITIONS FROM OUR REPRESENTATIVES
We call on all Members of Parliament of our Prefecture to stop making vague statements. We demand that they publicly and clearly express their position. Silence equals consent. We want to know who stands beside the mountain and who stands against it.

DECLARATION OF THE MOUNTAIN RIDGES AS PROTECTED LANDSCAPES
We demand the immediate institutional protection of the ridgelines of Pindos and their designation as “Protected Natural Landscapes,” free from any kind of industrial activity. Our mountains are not “energy resources.” They are indivisible ecosystems that must remain intact.

PRIORITY TO SOFT AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
We advocate for a model that prioritizes ecotourism, livestock farming, and local needs that respect the landscape, instead of massive industrial schemes that destroy it.

The mountain is not a commodity; it is our home. If we allow our ridgelines to disappear beneath concrete and steel, we will deprive future generations of the right to witness a free horizon.

We commit ourselves to continue walking, informing, and protecting the Pindos mountains through every lawful means available.

For us, love for nature is not a hobby — it is a duty.

WE CONTINUE THE STRUGGLE – WE DEFEND OUR MOUNTAINS!
