Ancient Gomfoi

The remains of the ancient city of Gomfoi are located within the administrative boundaries of the Regional Unit of Karditsa – Municipality of Mouzaki, in an area that highlights the historical and strategic significance of the settlement in antiquity. Within the boundaries of the Regional Unit of Trikala – Municipality of Pyli, parts of the northern cemetery of the city have been identified, specifically the site known as “Loggarakos,” which was partially excavated in the past, revealing valuable information about burial customs and the material culture of the region. In the tombs that were investigated, vessels, jewelry, swords, and other grave goods were discovered, which are currently preserved and exhibited at the Diachronic Museum of Larissa, while their future presentation is planned at the under-establishment Diachronic Museum of Trikala, further enhancing the promotion of local cultural heritage.
